I am a 58 year old Yorkshire man who started taking photographs when I was 16 with a small 110 film camera, I soon progressed and got a Zenith 35mm, then a Pentax Me Super 35mm. I have also had a Minolta X500, Olympus OM10, so as you can see, nothing special just the normal midrange stuff at the time.
When digital came along I first got a Nikon coolpix 2200, a 2mg camera, it was ok but I wanted something better so got a Fuji finepix3600. I liked this camera but I still yearned for a dslr, so I decided to sell all my old film gear and scraped enough together to buy a Canon 300D. This was a decent camera and served me well till I missed a shot because of the start-up time! After reading up about all the cameras I could afford at the time, a 20D sounded like it would do all I wanted so I got one. It was instant start up but a steeper learning curve, though I soon got used to it. I then picked up a 30D because I liked the spot metering on it. I use the 30D with my Canon 100-400L and my 20D with my Tamron 90mm most of the time. It's nice to have 2 cameras that are as similar as these two are, as it makes it simpler when switching from one to the other.Since I have upgraded to the 7D and the 1Ds Mkii that last sentiment about having 2 cameras that are similar holds very true as these 2 cameras are like chalk and cheese .I have now changed over to the Olympus OM-D E-M5 as I have been having back problems and was finding it hard to carry all the equipment I need and this camera allows me to have all the equipment but with a lot less weight and still get excellent results.
I mainly photograph wildlife but will take photos of anything I find interesting or different. I have had photographs on Look North, in my local paper the Wakefield Express, and on a couple of websites - B.T.O for one .I would say I am an 'avid amateur' friends would say an 'obsessive', but each to their own.
My ambition would be to have a photo on the front of National Geographic, but would also love to be able to make a living out of it.
